Today, I’m thrilled to share my musical journey of 2023, filled with enchanting performances witnessed in the heart of London’s theaters. Musicals have been my passion, and as many have rightfully said, they’re a gateway ticket to happiness! While I understand that this genre may not be everyone’s cup of tea, for me, being surrounded by the world of musical theatre makes everything else fade into the background.

Here are my 4 best musicals of 2023:

1. Hamilton – A Historical Marvel:

Hamilton left me absolutely stunning. Despite the loads of historical information that might overwhelm a non-native, the show’s brilliance makes me want to revisit it multiple times. The emotional depth of the songs, coupled with a clear narrative, ensures that each viewing is a unique and captivating experience.

2. Moulin Rouge – Everybody Can Can:

Moulin Rouge’s theatrical rendition, “Everybody Can Can,” has secured a special place in my heart. I had the pleasure of seeing it twice during my visits to London this year. Initially, I found it a bit peculiar that it didn’t mirror the movie exactly. However, as the curtains fell, I realized that the live show exceeded the film in every aspect, delivering a performance that was 10 times more magical.

3. Tina The Musical – Empowered Icon:

“Tina: The Musical” is a powerful portrayal of an empowered woman icon. I thoroughly enjoyed this production, and it unquestionably earns its spot as a must-see in the vibrant city of London. The energy, passion, and inspiration it exudes make it an unforgettable experience.

4. & Juliet – A Jukebox Twist:

“& Juliet” brings a delightful twist to the classics with its grooving jukebox. While I consider it a one-time must-see in London’s theaters, it carries a strong message of inclusion. The fun-filled experience and innovative take on familiar tunes make it a worthwhile addition to the musical lover’s repertoire.

This review comes straight from a passionate enthusiast, not a seasoned theater critic. I may not dissect every nuance, but I can certainly share the magic and emotion these musicals brought into my life.
